Cyber attack on the Ireland Health Service Executive’s IT system

The HSE has received a demand for money after a major cyber attack on its IT system – but it says the ransom won’t be paid.

Some cancer and maternity appointments have been affected by the attack and the system to refer people for a Covid test and the portal to register for a vaccine are both down.

The HSE is liaising with Gardai and the National Cyber Security Centre.

HSE Chief Operations Officer, Anne O’Connor, says the extent of the disruption to services will depend on local facilities.
