Covid-19: a record high 3,394 more cases and 4 further deaths; new cases including some of the 9,000 delayed cases

The Department of Health has confirmed 3,394 new cases of Covid-19 and 4 further deaths.

There have now been a total of 96,926 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 2,252 deaths related to the virus in Ireland.

Earlier today, the Chair of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group said all the indicators show Ireland is “in a very significant surge”.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Saturday with Katie Hannon, Professor Philip Nolan said the cases being reported now would be compatible to a reproduction number of 1.8 to 2, though this has not yet been confirmed.

In excess of 3,000 new cases are expected to be reported today, including some of the 9,000 delayed cases that were flagged by NPHET yesterday.
