首席醫學官托尼·霍洛漢說，今天宣布的426例病例似乎比最近的趨勢有了顯著增加。 但是他說，很多病例來自一家醫院是在一段時間內發生的，但是今天 一次過報告。

Another 10 people with Covid-19 have died in Ireland, bringing the total to 1,506. The Department of Health said that 426 more cases of the virus have been confirmed, bringing that total to 23,827.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the 426 cases announced today looked like a significant increase on recent trends. But he said a large number of the cases were from one hospital, occurred over a period of time and were reported in one group today.

He said: “There has been a reporting of one large number of cases that accumulated over a period of time diagnosed in respect of one specific hospital and reported by the occupational health department of that hospital. He said the cases involved go back to the middle of March.

There have been a further five Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland, taking the total to 454.

While most of the fatalities occurred in hospitals, the figure also includes deaths in nursing homes and other settings.

The Department of Health said there have been an additional 38 cases of coronavirus, bringing the overall figure to 4,291.
