The Irish Solar Energy Association told Fora that “the majority” of Ireland’s solar panels are imported from China and costs have increased by 10% because of the disruption in the supply chain.
Enterprise Ireland has advised its clients exporting to the region to put “continuity plans” in place and review business travel to the region.
The Irish Exporters Association said last week state support should be put in place for Irish businesses that will suffer as a result of factory closures and restriction at ports.
Some Irish companies are confident they will get their supplies from elsewhere, but a lot are concerned about the increased cost. While Irish component manufacturers fear their customers may stall or cancel orders if other parts coming from China don’t arrive on time.

CONCERNS HAVE BEEN raised after it emerged that x-rays on patients exhibiting coronavirus symptoms were carried out by doctors rather than radiographers at Cork University Hospital (CUH).
Reports emerged on social media earlier this week that non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs), also known as junior doctors, at CUH were left having to do the chest x-rays on these particular patients instead of radiographers, who are specifically trained in medical imaging.
Director of the Irish Patients Association Stephen McMahon expressed concern about junior doctors taking over the role of radiographers.
“We’re concerned about the competencies of juniors doctors to take over the role of radiographers,” he said.
When asked by TheJournal.ie if the situation at CUH is cause for worry among patients going for x-rays, the HSE’s Director of National Services Joe Ryan said “no, not at all”.
