Covid-19: 1,025 more cases and 2 further deaths; new variant of Covid from UK detected in Ireland

The Department of Health has confirmed 1,025 new cases of Covid-19 and 2 further deaths.
There have now been a total of 84,098 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 2,194 deaths related to the virus in Ireland.
According to TheJournal.ie “Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “I can confirm that we have detected the new UK variant of SARS-CoV-2 by whole genome sequencing at the National Virus Reference Laboratory in UCD.”
