Salary: Appointment will be made on the Associate Professor salary scale schedule B (103B), at a point in line with Government Pay Policy [€86,106 to €114,243 per annum].

Post Summary
The Trinity Centre for Asian Studies (TCAS) is a vibrant interdisciplinary teaching and research centre at Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin, based in the School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences. It invites applications for the post of Professor in Chinese Studies.
The post holder will provide leadership in the development of a vibrant research and teaching programme in Chinese Studies at the Trinity Centre for Asian Studies. It is expected that the post holder will assume a leading role at the university in advancing knowledge of Asia through teaching, research and engagement, thus leveraging the existing research and teaching expertise and track record of success at TCAS since its establishment in 2014.
It is essential that the successful candidate is an internationally recognized researcher, with an excellent publication profile, a record of raising research funding, experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment, and recruitment and supervision of research students. The post also calls for fluency (native or near-native) in Mandarin and literacy in written Chinese.
The post holder will be a senior member of the academic faculty at Trinity College Dublin and will demonstrate inspirational leadership and excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will take a leading role in developing research strategy relevant to their subject area, in fostering a stimulating and supportive work environment and in engaging in research and dissemination initiatives at a national and international level that will make an impact in Ireland, China and beyond.
The successful candidate will have an appreciation of the research/educational developments and the range of intellectual interests represented in Chinese Studies in an international setting, demonstrate capability in academic leadership and strategic management in higher education institutions, and express a long-term vision for the development of the Trinity Centre for Asian Studies and the discipline of Chinese Studies in the university and nationally. They will contribute in particular to the growth and development of the university’s M.Phil. in Chinese Studies.
Standard Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
The post holder will undertake the following duties:
· Deliver research-led teaching in the M.Phil. in Chinese Studies degree programme
· Develop and deliver appropriate undergraduate modules relevant to the discipline
· Engage in individual and collaborative research and actively seek research funding.
· Supervise postgraduate dissertation projects (Master’s and Ph.D. students).
· Assume the rotating directorship of the Trinity Centre for Asian Studies.
· Provide leadership in outreach activities and engage in activities which promote Chinese and Asian Studies beyond the university.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Candidates must have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline, preferably with one of the following specialisms: Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language (TCFL), Intercultural Studies, Translation Studies, Bilingualism/Multilingualism, or cognate fields.
The successful candidate will have international work experience and a sustained record of published research output in their area of Chinese Studies, especially in high impact international journals. Candidates will also have demonstrable ability in a research leadership role and a record of high achievement in teaching, supervision, administration and engagement with the community.

The successful candidate will be able to clearly demonstrate the following:

· An international research record including evidence of sustained publication in high- impact journals and other volumes.
· Record of an ability to raise research funding from a variety of sources.
· Excellence in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
· Excellence in the supervision of undergraduate, masters and doctoral dissertations.
· Evidence of experience of successful management responsibilities within an academic setting
· Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to present and communicate ideas and concepts clearly.
· Fluency (native or near-native) in Mandarin and literacy in written Chinese.
Desirable skills and competencies
· Evidence of having delivered leadership to the research community through presentations at international conferences, membership of international societies, committees and editorial boards and through reviewing and refereeing activities.
· Enthusiasm for engagement with wider strategic initiatives in the University as well as the vision and leadership skills necessary to develop a research strategy
· Demonstrable experience of leadership in advancing gender equality
