倫敦德里郡 County Londonderry , 被慣稱為德里 Derry 這個名字是舊愛爾蘭名字Daire（現代愛爾蘭語：Doire）的含義，意思是“橡樹林”。1613年，這座城市獲得了“倫敦”的前綴在德里之前, 以以反映該城巿由倫敦提供建設資金。雖然這個城市通常被稱為Derry，但倫敦德里郡才是合法的正式名稱。

倫敦德里稱為「處女城」（Maiden City），因為其城牆從未被砲彈穿破。它是歐洲少數城牆未被攻破過的城市之一。被城牆包圍的老城位於福伊爾河  River Foyle 的西岸 ，由兩座路橋和一座人行天橋組成。

The Guildhall 市政廳建築採用新哥特式風格，是愛爾蘭西北部最引人注目的建築之一，最初建於1887年。紅色砂岩建築是新哥特式。彩色玻璃窗令人驚艷，樓梯，主廳和走廊, 其獨特的歷史, 都吸引大量遊客。
