Drivers and passengers will be required by the law to wear face coverings while travelling in taxis.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has signed a regulation that has made face coverings a legal requirement in a taxi, hackney or limousine.
Under the new law, taxi drivers will have the right to refuse service to someone not wearing one or curtail a journey if a passenger removes their face covering en route.
Drivers will have to wear a covering while transporting passengers but they don’t have to if the vehicle isn’t in use as a taxi or when they are alone.
